How to Boot People out of Yahoo Messenger

There are times when you're chatting with others in Yahoo Chat or through Yahoo Messenger and someone else might be problematic. The person could be sending you a stream of IMs, sending you links that you have no interest in going to or, worse, spamming you with gibberish. When that person has hit your last nerve, you might opt to boot him or her out of Yahoo Messenger in response.

Boot Someone off Yahoo Messenger

Step 1

Log on to Yahoo and Yahoo Messenger and enter your account information to get started. You'll need to create an account from the Yahoo Web site if you haven't done so already (see Resources below).

Step 2

Start your third-party boot program. Be sure to follow the instructions set forth in its manual in order to know how your particular boot program works.

Step 3

Select someone from your contact list, or select a recently received incoming message.

Step 4

Enable your boot program's boot function by flooding a user with instant messages. This tactic ends up overloading their server and causing Yahoo Messenger to crash.

Step 5

Use your boot program in Yahoo Chat as well. In the same way you boot people out of Yahoo Messenger, you can also target people in Yahoo Chat with a flood of IMs. Simply click on their usernames and select 'Send IM' to begin the same process.

TIPS TO AVOID BOOT ON YAHOO MESSENGER:
It's possible to avoid booting people out of Yahoo Messenger. You can turn off your presence by making yourself 'Invisible,' or you can simply choose to report a user's message as spam. Adding someone to your 'Ignore List' is also an option, as this will block all attempts by that user from contacting you in the future.

If you'd like to find answers for other questions about Yahoo Messenger, visit the Yahoo Help section of the Web site (see Resources below).

It's important to note that to boot someone off Yahoo Messenger is considered a breach of your agreement for using the software. In some instances, it is also altogether illegal and can result in you being banned from the Yahoo community as well as other penalties. Keep in mind that Yahoo may monitor your boot attempts regardless of your security settings. Use boot programs to kick people off Messenger at your own risk.
